Samsung and Japan’s NTT DOCOMO team up to use AI to improve 6G networks

[Technology News] According to foreign media reports, Samsung has partnered with Japanese telecommunications company NTT DOCOMO to jointly study how to use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve future 6G mobile networks. As AI technology is increasingly used in all walks of life and 6G standards have not yet been established, the two companies are trying to explore how AI can improve the performance of mobile networks.

Currently, the optimization of mobile networks is mainly focused on the cell site level. However, Samsung and NTT DOCOMO are looking for ways to improve and optimize the entire mobile network on a larger scale by using AI algorithms. Their goal is to use AI to improve the quality and efficiency of the network.

For example, if a user is watching a video stream, AI can help ensure there are no interruptions or signal loss as they move from one cell tower area to another. This is because the entire network will be able to predict and manage the user’s movement through AI, providing a much smoother experience.

Samsung and NTT DOCOMO have long collaborated in the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) area, working on the standardization of mobile networks. They hope to continue to work together to advance telecommunications technology in the future.

Paul Cheun, President and CTO of Samsung Electronics and head of Samsung Research said: “This collaboration with NTT DOCOMO will play a key role in developing AI technologies for communication systems. By combining the technologies and expertise of both companies, we will create synergies for the next generation of communication technologies.”
