AirPods 4 Noise Cancelling Edition First Review – Technocraj

Technocraj brings you the most surprising new product test of this Apple conference – AirPods 4th generation.

We used a human head microphone to record and compare the listening experience and noise reduction effects with AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 3.

▲ New AirPods 4th generation

Compared with the third generation released three years ago, this time it can be said to be an all-round upgrade:

The newly designed battery compartment and earphones have optimized acoustic structure to improve sound quality, and most importantly, a new version that supports active noise reduction has been launched this time.

In terms of appearance, it is 4mm thinner and 3g lighter than the previous generation, but the battery life remains the same.

The physical pairing button on the back has been removed, and the indicator light on the front has been hidden. The outer shell is integrated except for the hinge on the back and the opening on the bottom.

The noise reduction version has a speaker in the battery compartment compared to the standard version, which is used for Find My to find the headphones

▲ Supports wireless charging with Apple Watch charger and ordinary Qi-certified charger

Instead of using physical buttons, Apple used the accelerometer to design a very interesting pairing action – tapping.

The tapping gestures only work when the earphones are in the box with the lid open, so there is no need to worry about accidental operation.

The body of this generation of headphones has become noticeably flatter, and the sound holes have also become flatter, making them appear visually “lighter”.

Compared to the “fat” shape of the previous generation, AirPods 4 will be more comfortable to wear.

The battery handle still supports pressure-sensitive control, but lacks the sliding volume adjustment function compared to AirPods Pro 2.

The contacts at the bottom have changed from two large arcs to three small dots. The two inner ones are charging contacts, the outer one is a disguised microphone, and the long strip on top is an anti-wind noise microphone. Together, they realize the call reception and active noise reduction functions

The AirPods 4 Active Noise Cancellation version not only supports transparency mode and noise reduction mode, but also supports the “adaptive noise reduction” and “conversation awareness” functions added to the USB-C version of AirPods Pro 2 last year, and also supports Vision Pro’s lossless low-latency transmission.

Did you notice? The only difference between this and AirPods Pro 2 is that it is semi-in-ear. It provides a belated but necessary solution for Apple users who don’t want to wear in-ear headphones but still need noise reduction and experience.

If you think it’s good, please give us a thumbs up. We will bring you more review experiences of Apple’s new products in the future, so stay tuned!
